Joel B. Weinberg is the CEO and Founder of Insolvency Services Group. He began his career as a corporate and tax lawyer, later specializing in commercial bankruptcy and debt restructuring work for more than 30 years. He has developed significant expertise in bankruptcy alternatives including general assignments, receiverships, and creditor moratorium and composition agreements.
Joel also serves as a mediator in the mediation program established by the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California. He has been awarded certificates of recognition from the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California in connection with his role as a mediator.
Joel obtained his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Loyola Marymount University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University. He has lectured and written extensively on a broad range of bankruptcy and reorganization topics including general assignments under California Law. He is also an adjunct professor of law at Loyola Law School, where he teaches bankruptcy law.
Working with ISG since its founding in 2001, Gunther has provided insolvency and litigation support services on over 300 matters for debtors under general assignment, receivership, and bankruptcy, across a wide range of industries. Gunther is primarily responsible for case structuring and overall case management. He is also an experienced operating officer and has held several executive positions within the telecommunications industry.
Gunther holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business, emphasis in Finance, from the University of the Pacific, magna cum laude, and was formerly a Senior Consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers in their Litigation and Bankruptcy Support practice.
Denise Wood
Senior Consultant and Manager HR/Tax Services
Denise manages the department responsible for tax compliance, U.S. Trustee reporting, court-mandated financial reporting, and the administration of labor and employment-related claims. Denise also manages creditor distributions and case closures. She is a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) with over 25 years of experience in accounting, finance, and payroll and 14 years of experience supporting insolvency matters. Previously, Denise held positions of Finance Manager, Human Resources Director, and Payroll Manager at medium to large-sized companies. Denise holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from California Polytechnic University, Pomona and an MBA with a concentration in Human Resource Management from Keller Graduate School of Management.
Carly Springer
Senior Consultant and Digital Asset Manager
Carly regularly acts as a lead case manager, from case pre-planning through to case closure. Carly also serves as a Digital Asset Manager and is responsible for preserving and managing a wide variety of IT systems and digital assets of debtors. She has 9 years of experience in the insolvency industry. Carly holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from California State University, Long Beach, magna cum laude, and a Master of Arts degree in Economics from Lancaster University, UK. Carly holds the CIRA (Certified Insolvency & Restructuring Advisor) designation and is an active member of the Association of Insolvency & Restructuring Advisors.
Maria E. Vargas
Senior Consultant
Maria is a lead case accountant focused on the development and management of case accounting reporting. Maria also has the capability to perform complex financial analyses and project management. She has worked in the insolvency industry for 16 years and in the accounting profession for over 20 years. Maria holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from California State University, Fullerton.
Colleen M. Mansfield
Claims Manager
Colleen manages the department responsible for creditor noticing, creditor communications, and claims processing. Colleen also manages the creditor call center. She has 15 years of experience in the insolvency industry and over 20 years of supervisory and managerial experience with various financial institutions.
Diana Johnson
Staff Consultant
Diana manages cash receipts, disbursements, and bank reconciliation functions for all cases. She also assists with the preparation of monthly court-ordered reports and all U.S. Trustee reporting. In addition, Diana also manages payroll tax compliance for various cases. Diana is a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) with over 20 years of experience in accounting and payroll.
Rodger Benson
Special Projects/Property Management
Rodger has 15 years of experience in the insolvency industry, having consulted on approximately 150 cases for debtors under general assignment, receivership, and bankruptcy, across a wide variety of industries. Rodger’s focus is on case project management and onsite fieldwork at debtor locations, operations, and property management. Previously, he held operational, marketing, and executive positions at Eastman Kodak Company, Hewlett Packard, AT&T, and at two start-up telecommunications companies. Rodger holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Gannon University in Pennsylvania.
